How buyers verify chain of title for a game or game IP

Trace every material right from creator to seller, then convert gaps in contracts, licences and registrations into explicit closing mechanics.

Chain of title answers a simple question with difficult evidence: how did the seller acquire every right it claims to sell? Start with founders and employees, then review contractor agreements, studio work-for-hire terms, publisher arrangements, music and voice contracts, asset-store licences, open-source notices, brand collaborations and prior financing.

Registered trade marks, patents and designs should be searched in the relevant territories and matched to the seller. Copyright can exist without registration, so repositories, source files and invoices do not by themselves prove ownership. Confirm signed assignments and moral-rights treatment where relevant.

Turn exceptions into explicit deal mechanics: third-party consent, a replacement asset, a limited licence, a price adjustment, an indemnity or a closing condition. The goal is not a perfect folder; it is a defensible explanation of what the buyer owns, may use, must attribute and cannot transfer again.
